The Walker Wrestling team was established in the 1970′s by legendary Coach Vic Karabasz. Since then, the likes of Hezzie Morgan, Gary Borden, Tim Minor, David Norwood, and Mike King among others, have all been at the helm. The current Head Coach is Martin Blankenship, who is beginning his 7th year.
The 1971 Team won the State Championship when all schools competed in the state tournament. The 1991 team finished as State Runner-ups without having crowned an individual champion.
Jerald Colbert’s 2008 title was the school’s first “home grown” individual state champion since Andrea Hoseley in 1992. The team has gone in and out of existence over the years, but the roots appear to be in the ground as of present day.
The 2010-11 season represents a rebuilding mode. With most of the varsity squad consisting of freshmen and sophomores and a strong middle school program, the future for the current crop of Viking wrestlers looks bright!
